The Apuan Newt

MY ART

This sculpture, carved from a marble fragment recovered from one of the many debris dumps in the Apuan Alps, represents the Apuan Alpine Newt (Triturus alpestris apuanus). This small amphibian is the symbol of the fragility and uniqueness of our mountains, being an endemic species that lives exclusively within this ecosystem.

I have donated this work to the association "Apuane Libere" as a concrete gesture of support for their tireless commitment to fighting the environmental disaster caused by aggressive marble quarrying.

Carving this triton into waste marble means transforming a fragment of destruction into a message of hope and protection for the biodiversity of the Apuan Alps.
